Aquarium Marketing/Operations Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Marketing/operations manager to lead our passionate and busy team and to take overall responsibility for the day to day running of the Skegness Aquarium.

Suitable candidates must have a positive and enthusiastic attitude, whilst being driven to enhance the profitability of the company. Suitable applicants must have experience in marketing, excellent managerial skills, be well organised and have the ability to direct and drive a team.


Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and motivate your team members of Skegness Aquarium, Model Village and Skegness Waterway
  • Completion of routine health and safety checks
  • Developing and delivering suitable marketing strategy for all attractions
  • Organising and managing social media campaigns
  • Improve profitability of all attractions
  • Close monitoring of budgets and KPI’s – reporting to company Directors

Essential requirements:

  • Minimum two years’ management experience
  • Experience of marketing strategies
  • Proven leadership skills essential
  • Proven ability to work under own initiative, high attention to detail and key team player
  • Good communication skills and confidence speaking in public and interacting with visitors
  • Excellent record keeping skills
  • Passionate about delivering the highest standards throughout the work environment

Desirable requirements:

  • Knowledge of aquarium industry and British zoo licensing

Full support of an existing accounts and operations framework. Salary package dependent upon experience.

Senior Aquarist

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Skegness Aquarium for an experienced Senior Aquarist to join our passionate and busy team.

As Senior Aquarist, you would be supporting the new General Manager and the Assistant Curator in leading and developing our hardworking team, as well as coming up with exciting new ideas and concepts for our displays and conservation work.

Skegness Aquarium is set in an interactive Treasure Island themed environment and is home to an interesting collection of tropical marine, tropical freshwater and terrestrial species with scope to introduce new species and further develop or redesign displays in the future.


Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with leading and developing the team
  • Daily husbandry tasks and maintenance of displays
  • Maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and striving to constantly make improvements
  • Ensuring compliance with zoo licensing and delivering basic veterinary care & treatments
  • Life support systems maintenance
  • Record keeping
  • Guest interpretation and interaction

Essential requirements:

  • Minimum two years’ experience working within the aquarium industry
  • Experience of tropical marine aquatic husbandry and sound knowledge of aquarium life support systems
  • Experience in providing basic veterinary treatments and care under Vets’ and Assistant Curator and Vet guidance
  • Proven leadership skills essential with previous management experience highly desirable
  • Proven ability to work under own initiative, high attention to detail and key team player
  • Good communication skills and confidence speaking in public and interacting with visitors
  • Excellent record keeping skills and knowledge of British zoo licensing procedure
  • Passionate about delivering the highest standards throughout the work environment
  • Be able to relocate within 30 minutes of the aquarium

Desirable requirements:

  • Qualification/degree in marine biology, animal care or similar
  • DMZAA would be beneficial but not essential
  • Dive qualifications of minimum PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent, and be able to obtain a HSE Dive Medical
  • Experience working with corals and terrestrial invertebrates, amphibians and reptiles
  • Experience developing conservation initiatives

This is a full time position which includes working regular weekends and bank holidays as well as being on call for out of hour’s emergencies, working sometimes early or late to meet business and animal care demands.
